A New Day Dawning (On Hope)

"Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning." Lamentations 3:23

No matter how lonely or bleak the night seems, light will come again. The sun that abandoned you will show his face and spread his warmth like a blanket over you once more.

There is hope and newness in the startling colors revealed by the sunrise. And another day begins, as if yesterday never happened.

Each and every day we get a chance at a fresh start. We get to reset the counter to 0. Day 0 of shooting up. Day 0 of smoking. Day 0 of looking at porn. Day 0 fighting with your boyfriend. Day 0 of cutting. Day 0 of cutting class. Day 0 of being lazy. Day 0 of comparing yourself to others. Day 0 of skipping meals. Day 0 of spending over your credit limit.

Each of us has something we struggle with. Each one of us has parts of us, habits, thought patterns, difficulties we face every day. But thank God! His mercies are new every morning.

"Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning." Lamentations 3:23

Every day He looks at us, not seeing all the ways we've struggled and failed up until this point, but he sees the righteousness of His Son. He does not keep a tab of all we have done wrong. If He wanted to do that, let's be honest, He'd just have to come to us, or those closest to us. But God, in all His goodness, does not keep a tab. He doesn't have a 'set amount' of grace and mercy He's willing to pour out for us. His Love for us is infinite, and His capacity to forgive and forget is endless for His Children. His aim is not to punish us for the times we have fallen short. His aim is for our transformation. It is for us to be transformed into the Holy image of His Son--our original glory which was lost in the Garden. At the Fall when Eve and Adam chose knowledge over God. They lost their original glory for all of mankind when they chose the Knowledge of good and evil over choosing to trust God.
